Manikin Carry

Standard carry

The carry events focus on the lifesaving skill of the contact rescue, modified to form a competitive event. In carry events, the competitor lugs a full 8.5stone manikin over a set distance usually having swum the same distance to reach it.

The carry is split into 3 different events.  Click on the event to see the official rules.

50m Carry:From a dive start, competitors enter the water and sprint 25m to a submerged manikin; duck dive to it and carry it the remaining distance using either a single front crawl or a sidestroke/lifesaving backstroke action.

100m Carry with Fins:This events tests competitors over a longer distance using one item of rescue equipment, stereo fins (flippers). Dive start, competitors race 50m to a submerged manikin, collect it and sprint back using a single arm front crawl action or the less favoured kicking on back or side.

4 x 25m Carry Relay:Testing carry technique within a team. Competitor 1 starts holding the manikin and sprints 25m to meet competitor 2 half way in the pool. A rolling changeover (similar to 4 x 100m athletic baton relays) ensures momentum isn’t lost. C2 passes to C3, C3 to C4.
